Self Catering Accommodation in Rouxville, Free State
Pandora, Fully Equipped Self Catering on the N6
Pandora is a self catering house in Rouxville, on the N6 between Smithfield and Aliwal North. You book the whole house. No shared lounge, no other guests, no reception desk.
It suits a one night stopover as easily as a week. Business travellers break the Gauteng to coast drive here. Families use it as a base for the scenic Maluti Route. Wedding guests take it because the town fills up fast when there is a function on. We have been doing this since 2006.
A Spacious Sandstone House With a History
Pandora was built about eighty years ago as a semi, which is why it still has two front doors. Before it took guests it was Rouxville Algemene Handelaars, the general dealer at the centre of town, selling coal and timber, paraffin and dress patterns, Lennons and snuff, Mrs Balls and wallpaper, Wilson toffees and bicycle spares.
The sandstone walls are original. Everything behind them has been opened up and renovated into one light, generous home.
Bedrooms and Living Space
- Two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms
- Additional sleeping on request, up to 10 guests
- Two bathrooms
- Open plan kitchen, lounge and dining
- Braai on the covered back stoep
- Private walled courtyard
- Covered on-site parking
The kitchen is fully kitted, so you cook when you want and eat when you want. Most guests end up on the back stoep with the braai going.
An Ideal N6 Stopover
Rouxville sits where the Free State, the Eastern Cape, the Karoo and Lesotho meet, roughly two hours from Bloemfontein. Aliwal North and Zastron are both 36 km away. Smithfield is 40 km.
That position is the whole point. Pandora is a short turn off the N6, not a detour that costs you an hour of daylight. Pull in, unpack once, sleep properly, carry on in the morning.

Pet Friendly, and We Mean It
Your dogs stay in the house with you. The courtyard is walled and guests have been arriving with dogs, and at least one parrot, for close on twenty years. Pet friendly self catering on the N6 is harder to find than it should be, so tell us what you are bringing when you book.
Rouxville and the Surrounding Area
The town works as a base for country churches, windmills and sandstone streetscapes, and as a launch point for the scenic Maluti Route. From here you can reach Rhodes, Hogsback, Basotho land, the Transkei and the Wild Coast towns of Morgans Bay, Kei Mouth and Haga Haga.
If you are heading off the beaten track, call us. We know the back roads and we will tell you which ones are worth it.
Platteland spaces. Find or lose yourself.

Posted on Google![]()
